As for the past 15 summers, on July 2nd the University Sertoma Club of Lincoln hosted one of the three teams of Journey of Hope cyclists, members of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity from universities across the nation, for a picnic dinner at Antelope Park as they stopped for the night in Lincoln. Following dinner, the team of 35 cyclists traveled to Christ United Methodist Church for a friendship visit where team members and people with disabilities from the Lincoln community participated in interactive social activities. Journey of Hope is a program organized by PUSH America, the national philanthropy of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, which raises funds in hopes of enhancing awareness and the quality of the lives for people with disabilities. Each cyclist raised at least $5,500 before beginning their trip in San Francisco that will culminate 4,000 miles later in Washington, DC. Combined with their individual fund raising and corporate sponsorships, the Journey of Hope 2014 teams have raised more than $500,000 this year for people with disabilities.
